Visbeen Associates designed a cottage on Lake Michigan that is available for sale. Situated on Monroe Boulevard in the City of South Haven, this residence is nearly 3,000 sq feet on three floors and sleeps 8-12 people comfortably. The home's entry level includes a cozy kitchen with breakfast nook and pantry, a dining room with built-ins and a spacious living room with unobstructed, panoramic views of Lake Michigan, the pier and lighthouse. The mid-level of the home houses the master suite with "His and Hers" closets and a gracious master bath. It also boasts a bunk room with an attached bath and the laundry room. Entering the basement level of this cottage, you will find a lovely guest suite with attached bathroom and a covered patio for outdoor dining. This basement level is completed with a large family room with wet bar. The premier 1/3 acre Lake Michigan waterfront property offers no-bluff, private beach front and is within walking distance to shopping, dining and South Haven entertainment and nightlife. The Municipal Marina, biking and hiking paths are nearby. Currently under construction, this home will be completed in time for the new owner to enjoy their 2011 summer on the beach!

Architectural Tutorial: Contemporary Style

In our upcoming Architectural Tutorials, we will be outlining and defining architectural styles. Today's tutorial will cover contemporary architecture.

Contemporary architecture is typically defined as the "building style of the present day."* But the styles of present day have a variety of influences, so the term is not so easily characterized. The contemporary style has been known to "feature reflective surfaces, clean and sleek lines, innovative graphical patterns, unusual colors, rounded forms, and asymmetrical designs."**Contemporary homes often incorporate materials like stainless steel, polished marble, chrome and recycled materials and frequently deal with the monochromatic, minimalistic and neutral color schemes.

You may not know that in addition to our many traditional residential designs, Visbeen Associates has numerous contemporary homes in our portfolio of work. Here are just a few examples of our contemporary designs.

Brooklyn Museum to Open First Phase of Transformative Renovation | www.broadwayworld.com

The Booklyn Museum in New York is in the initial phase of a major renovation. As part of this transformation, the Museum Shop will be relocated and it's new space has been designed by Visbeen Associates. In a recent article, www.broadwayworld.com has this to say about our involvement in the project,
"The Museum Shop will be relocated to the area currently occupied by the Robert E. Blum Gallery near the main lobby. The new shop will be redesigned by Visbeen Associates, Inc., an award-winning architectural firm based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, whose projects include several of the Metropolitan Museum of Art satellite stores, as well as the Peabody Essex Museum shop. Important new features to enhance the visitor's experience will be a wider entrance that will open onto the Grand Lobby, providing greater visual access to the galleries in the Great Hall and assisting with circulation patterns, as well as a new signage system."
Here are a few 3D views of our initial design concepts for the Museum Shop.

Room painting patterns

Room painting patterns Ready made stencils are available in the market, that allow you to paint clear, crisp designs on your floor. Use petite designs to make a border around the room, and leave the rest of the room as it is. It will have the room stand out beautifully. If you don't find the kind of motif you are looking for, you can always trace the design on a piece of cardboard and cut it out to use it as a stencil.
You could draw inspiration from a pattern on your drapes, something on your clothes, a design on your chairs, rugs, upholstery, etc. and retrace this beautiful pattern on your floors. Stencil designs look stunning on living or dining room floors.

Red room painting combinations

Red room painting combinations,Red room painting combinations 2011,Modern Red room painting combinations. The living room is a place which we can say is reserved for relaxation and entertaining guests. As the wall color is the first that comes in view when one enters the house, make sure you choose living room paint colors that would make the guests feel welcome. As the living room is a common room and is supposed to be bright enough, you need to select good light color combinations that would contribute to the brightness.
Do not use contrasting dark colors that would make the room appear weird. Another important point to ponder on is the color of the home furniture, decoration, and accessories. Popular paint color combinations are light red and green, white and green, and blue and white.

Room painting schemes

Room painting schemes,Room painting schemes 2011,Modern Room painting schemes,Room painting schemes and pictures.Green is the second most popular choice among girls. Green is serene and cool. Though green symbolizes the feeling of jealousy, it means differently in a color scheme for painting the walls of a girl's room. Girls who love to be outdoors, specially in the shadow of nature, prefer to have green-colored walls. Other representations of the color green are cautiousness and prosperity.

Green has proved to be good for the heart. Green helps to relax the muscles and causes slow and deep breathing.
